Pastor E. James Eaddy, Sr., is from the low county of Georgetown, South Carolina – the flat land adjacent to the Sea Islands where African slaves were brought in the late seventeenth century to work on rice, indigo, and cotton plantations. He was born on October 6, 1960.
He was shaped profoundly in the beauty of the Black Church, teeming with the idiosyncrasies of Africa, flowing with vitality and the rhythm of the toe heel foot pat and syncopated hand-clap, which gripped him firmly to a belief in God. He accepted Jesus Christ when he was nine.
He did well in college at South Carolina State, graduated with honors, and left there with a regular Army Commission in Military Intelligence. However, the best gift he left college with was his marriage to the former Linda L. Walker, a petite, good-looking, hard working sister who has given him five children. Linda is still the funny, lovely co-ed who tutored him in college algebra more than thirty one years ago. She left her studies in professional mathematics at SCSC. After a 15 years hiatus, during which time she dedicated herself full time to the nurture of the family, she returned to school and in 1999, completed her studies with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in professional (Applied) mathematics from Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia. First Lady Eaddy is a High School Algebra and Math teacher at Nansemond River High School in Suffolk, VA.
Dr. Eaddy left active duty and began seminary at Virginia Union University in January of 1994 and completed a Master of Divinity in May 1997 with honors. He completed his Doctor of Ministry degree with distinction in May 2001 from the United Theological Seminary of Dayton Ohio as a Wyatt Tee Walker Scholar and Fellow. He also has a Master Degree with honors from the University of Oklahoma, in Public Administration (1994) and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
He was installed as Pastor of Oakwood Chapel in June 11, 2006, after serving six plus years as Pastor of St John Missionary Baptist Church, Edenton, NC.
Pastor Eaddy’s sense of ministry is to: Love God and love God’s people by preaching and teaching the Gospel, while helping the Body of Christ to live successful lives with faith in God through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy spirit.
